The Ombudsman sends letters on an annual basis to county/county borough councils and local health boards/NHS trusts concerning the complaints he has received and considered during the year. The aim is to provide these bodies with information to help them improve both their complaint handling and the services that they provide. The letters the Ombudsman has issued in relation to the year 2010/11 are set out below and include a summary of statistics relating to the complaints he has received and dealt with.
